Minutes of the Friends of the Hopkinton Town Library Meeting 

April 15, 2009 

 

Meeting was called to order at 7:03 PM, Susan Lawless, President, Presiding

 

Item One: Last meeting minutes from the Feb meeting were distributed. Beth Bloomquist moved to pass the minutes. Sue Clarke seconded. Meeting minutes were passed unanimously.

 

Item Two: Library Sign: Don Lane presented

Need for sign:  1) the current one is falling apart, and 2) current sign does not reflect that the Slusser Senior Center is now located in Houston Fields

Total New Cost: $4500

Potential Donors: Slusser Center, HYSA, Library Foundation, etc.  Friends of the Library donation for $400 approved by FHTL members. 

Lighting was discussed: Solar vs. Electric, Top down vs. Ground Spot

    -a lively discussion followed-

 

Item Three: The Year in Review:  Accomplishments and Projects

• New Board member:  Janet Bloom has graciously agreed to serve as the FHTL Secretary to replace Lynn Brofos.  Thanks to both women for their service.

• Tenth Anniversary of the Library - events were very well supported and attended
• Essay Contest (an amazing 76 attendees were at the Essay Contest reception, despite a blizzard outside!)

• Published Essay Books

• Recommended that several copies (5) be donated

• Beth B. offered to purchase one for donation to the Antiquarian Society

• Diane L. offered to buy one for a school

• Janet Bloom offered to buy the other two for the schools

• One might also go to the NH Historical Society?

• New database established of FHTL members

• New email account established for FHTL; easier to communicate with members

• Membership Discussion

• Lifetime membership no longer available

• Oct-Oct membership year

• Apr-Apr fiscal year

• Committees

• Gardening

• Book Sale

• Programming

• Members approved the donation of one FHTL canvas tote bag and family membership to the Fun Fair at Harold Martin School, to support the PTA while promoting the FHTL

• Book Fair- Beth Bloomquist overall coordinator

• Bonnie Noyes -volunteers

• Chris Lawless -cleanup

• Susan Lawless and Donna Dunlop - publicity

• Discussion of proposal to enhance the urns at either side of the library entrance

• A local citizen with wholesale connections has offered to donate plants to be sold at the book sale to help defray the cost of these urns

• Members agreed to match the funds raised by this plant sale, up to $500, to purchase urns for the entrance
